Tax Partner

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client, a growing full-service CPA and Business Management firm with offices in New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, Maryland, White Plains, and California, is seeking an experienced Tax Partner to join its leadership team. (No book of business is required)

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership across a portfolio of complex tax engagements while ensuring exceptional client service, technical excellence, and compliance with professional standards. As a trusted advisor, you will partner with clients on complex tax matters, lead engagement teams, manage risk, contribute to practice growth, and mentor the next generation of tax leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a portfolio of complex tax engagements, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Review significant tax matters, evaluate technical issues, and provide guidance on complex federal and state tax matters.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for key clients, providing strategic tax planning, proactive communication, and exceptional client service.
  • Develop engagement strategies, including staffing, timelines, resource planning, and risk management.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and client concerns while ensuring appropriate documentation and sound professional judgment.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and support business development initiatives, including proposals, cross-selling services, and new client acquisition.
  • Monitor engagement performance, resource utilization, profitability, and capacity planning to ensure efficient delivery and operational excellence.
  • Mentor and develop Directors, Senior Managers, Managers, and engagement teams through coaching, performance feedback, and succession planning.
  • Support firm-wide initiatives focused on quality management, process improvement, technology adoption, training, and standardization of best practices.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Extensive public accounting experience leading complex tax engagements.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws, tax compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience managing executive-level client relationships and serving as a trusted business advisor.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing multiple engagements, developing teams, and making sound business and technical decisions.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, negotiation, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing a substantial client portfolio and contributing to practice growth and client retention.
  • Expertise with complex tax structures, multi-state tax compliance, and strategic tax planning.
  • Experience leading operational initiatives, including capacity planning, workflow optimization, technology implementation, training, and process improvements.
